80,000 POUND CLUB
The 80,000 lb club was “rolled out” the 18th of august. The ultimate goal of this organization is to remove 80,000 lbs of “unwanted freight” from the cabs of the industries trucks. We anticipate that this will take five or more years to accomplish. This year’s goal is 1,000 lbs.
This year’s program will operate like a “walk-a-thon” where participants will be asked to obtain a personal sponsor. This sponsor will donate to either Trucker Buddy or Special Olympics an amount per pound (sponsor determined) for weight lost by the participant. The program will run from 1 September 08 to 1 July 09.
Participants are highly encouraged to consult the health care provider (doctor) of their choice before starting any weight loss program. Participants will be asked to submit to the 80,000 lb club an “official” starting weight and height as of 1 September. This weight can be obtained anywhere the participant desires.
If the participant does not have a health care provider, and wishes to, the Professional Medical Depot will do a height and weight only, at no charge, and provide this information to the 80,000 lb club. More information on this service can be obtained from Truckers for a cause, or directly from PD MD.
Participants will be asked to submit 2 pictures. A head shot, to be used on the web site for “the Biggest Loser of the Month”. A body shot, to be used as before and after information. No pictures will be published without direct permission of the participant.
Participants will be asked to update the 80,000 lb club on a monthly basis (between the 1st and 5th ) so that we can track progress, identify people that are having difficulty, and provide encouragement where needed.
At the end of this year’s program, participants will be asked to submit an “official ending weight”. Total weight loss will be determined, donations will be calculated, and participants will be asked to contact their sponsors for donations.
Donation checks will be made out directly to the charity of the sponsor/participant’s choice. NOT TO EITHER THE 80,000 POUND CLUB OR TRUCKERS FOR A CAUSE. NEITHER THE 80,000 POUND CLUB NOR TRUCKERS FOR A CAUSE WILL BENEFIT FINANCIALLY FROM THIS PROGRAM. We are not about money; we are about making a difference in the lives of our members.
Donation checks will be mailed to a post office box, to be determined later, and presented directly to the charities at the Dallas truck show in August 09, by members of truckers for a cause. Again, all money raised in this program will be passed directly to charity.
We currently have 30 plus drivers industry wide that have expressed the desire to participate in this program. You do not have to be a member of Truckers for a Cause to participate although we would enjoy your membership. Conversely, you do not have to join the 80,000 lb club to be a member of Truckers for a Cause. We do hope that you will consider joining us in one capacity or another and trying to make a healthy difference in your life.

We are pleased and proud to add The Saint Christopher’s Fund to our short list of charity’s. This fund was not available when Wes and I first discussed which charity’s we would donate to, and it was an oversight on my part not to include them in the first draft. However Wes would have defiantly approved and I wholeheartedly agree that this is where our money will do the most good.
